How to Set Up SEO and Business Info (Website Builder)
Last updated July 6, 2026 · Admins and office staff
Good search settings and accurate business details help customers find you on Google and see the right thing when your site is shared. Both live on the Business info & design tab of your site. Your business name, address, and phone (NAP) are used as structured data that tells Google about your company — they do not create a visible contact section, so any contact info you want visitors to see is added by you in the footer or a page. This article covers the SEO fields, the phone/address fields, and how they feed search. To edit the pages themselves, see Build Your Site.
Before you start
- A site open in the Website Builder (Tools → Website → Manage), then click the Business info & design tab.
- Your business name, address, and phone number as you want them to appear to Google.
- Optional: links to your Facebook, Instagram, Google Business, YouTube, and X profiles.
Steps
Set your search (SEO) details
- On the Business info & design tab, open the Get found & track sub-tab.
- Under How your site appears in search:
- Title shown in Google — the clickable headline in Google results and the browser tab. Keep it under about 60 characters so it isn’t cut off (max 120).
- Description shown in Google — the grey summary line under your title in search results (max 320 characters).
- Expand Advanced search and sharing settings for two optional extras:
- Image shown when your link is shared — the preview picture people see when your site is shared on Facebook, X, or in a text message. Pick one with Choose from photo library or paste a URL.
- Google Search Console verification tag — paste the meta tag Google gives you to prove you own the site. Only needed if you use Search Console.
- Click Save.
Each page can also have its own search title, description, and share image — set those in the Search & sharing settings (optional) section below the drag-and-drop editor when editing a page. The site-level values here are the defaults used when a page doesn’t set its own.
Enter your business name, phone, and address (NAP)
- Still on Business info & design, open the Your business sub-tab.
- Your Site Name is under “Name & web address”.
- Under Phone & address (optional), fill in:
- Business phone — the number customers should call.
- Street address, City, State / region, and ZIP code.
- Click Save.
These details are shared with Google as structured data (so your business can appear in local searches) but, by design, they do not add a visible contact section anywhere on your public site.
Add social links (optional)
Under Social links on the Your business sub-tab, expand Add your social links and paste any of your Facebook, Instagram, Google reviews, YouTube, or X links. Each link you add becomes a clickable icon in your website footer and tells Google those profiles are yours.
Show contact info to visitors (manual)
Because the phone and address above are for search only, add any contact details you want customers to see directly in your content:
- Footer — on the Build site tab, click Customize Footer and add your phone, address, or email as text (or drop in a Social Row).
- A page — add a Text block, or use a Google Maps Location block, on a Contact page.
- A contact form — so visitors can message you without you publishing an email address. See Forms and the Inbox.
What happens next
- Google reads your Title and Description and shows them in search results (though Google may substitute its own text at times).
- Your business name, phone, address, and social links are published as structured data (JSON-LD) in the background — an invisible, machine-readable summary that helps search engines understand and list your business for local searches.
- When someone shares your site, the share image, title, and description you set control how the preview card looks.
- Changes to these settings take effect the next time your site is published or its pages are saved.
Tips & best practices
- Write for the customer, not the robot. A clear title like “Acme Lawn Care — Mowing & Snow Removal in Springfield” beats a keyword list.
- Fill in phone and address even though they’re optional — they power local search results and are how customers who find you on Google get in touch.
- Keep NAP consistent with your Google Business Profile and other listings (same spelling, same phone format) — consistency helps local ranking.
- Add a share image so links to your site look professional when posted or texted, instead of showing a random screenshot.
- Remember NAP is invisible on the page — if you want visitors to see your phone or address, add it to your footer or a page yourself.
Troubleshooting
- My phone/address isn’t showing anywhere on the site — that’s expected. Those fields feed search engines only. Add visible contact info to your footer or a page.
- My title or description isn’t updating in Google — search engines re-crawl on their own schedule; changes can take days to appear. Make sure you saved the settings and the site is published.
- The share preview shows the wrong image — set Image shown when your link is shared under Advanced search and sharing settings (or set a per-page share image in the editor). Social networks also cache previews, so it may take time to refresh.
- “SEO title may not exceed 120 characters” / “SEO description may not exceed 320 characters” — shorten the field to fit the limit shown.
- Google Search Console won’t verify my site — paste the exact meta tag Google provides into the “Google Search Console verification tag” field, save, and republish before retrying verification.
